  • Discussed potential amendments to the city’s Civil Rights Ordinance, in light of Council Member Jason Chavez’s recent notice of intent to introduce amendments that include adding homelessness as a protected class, protection for employment/work status, and protection for immigration. Kaela McConnon Diarra, director of the Complaints Investigation Division within the city’s Civil Rights Department, said she also is looking to update the ordinance so that the language more closely matches state and federal law.
  • Approved having the commission help residents register to vote, particularly in underrepresented communities. The commission will continue to discuss what this looks like at future meetings, but at this meeting, they voted to table at the North Minneapolis block party Live Your Healthy Lyfe in August.
