Commissioner Terry states that public comment is next, with each person having 2 minutes to speak - allotting a total of 20 minutes.
First public comment urges for the Commission to promote constitutional traffic stops
Second public comment states they are speaking form lived experience. They want the Commission to abolish pre-textual traffic stops unless they are a concern of public safety and are done with clearly marked city vehicles.
Third public comments urges for the Council to stop using pre-textual stops as they target specific racial groups. Urges to stop using pre-texual traffic stops as a whole but especially for minor violations (like broken taillights and unwarranted suspicion(s).
Fourth public comment also urges for the Commission to help stop using pre-texual traffic stops, highlighting the power that the Community Commission has to do so when listening to comments.
Another public comment highlights the disproportionate number of Black Americans that are killed in pre-textual traffic stops; urging the Commission to stop their use.
Another public speaker is a council member from the 7th ditrict. Urges the Commission to hold a hearing in July regarding pre-textual traffic stops. States that in their district there have been complaints about police response times, unjust stops.
Public comment transitions to Zoom; commenter brings up incident of an Officer shooting a dog with witnesses present. They urge COPA and the Commission to fire and hold the Officer accountable.

Public comment is back to in-person; speaker doesn't understand how officers can have 41 tactical complaints filed against them before they had killed his nephew after a traffic stop.
Last public speaker urges the Commission to hold a July hearing for the use of traffic stops.
Public comment section of the meeting is finished at 7:08 pm. Minutes are approved. Next on the agenda is New Business.
New Commissioners are introduced. Aaron Gottlieb introduces himself; a professor at UChicago and an active community member who is looking forward to serving the city.
Abierre Minor and Kelly Presley introduce themselves as active community members who are looking forward to working with COPA to being more accountability to police.

Sandra Wortham introduces herself as a life-long South Sider, who has maintained very strong ties to the community. States is deeply concerned with the state of public safety and is looking forward to providing her knowledge, expertise and experience to help make Chicago safer.
Commissioner Remel Terry re-introduces herself as a proud life-long West Side Chicagoan. For the past 22 months was a part of the interim Commission and is still deeply committed and is looking forward to providing her efforts to continue seeing progress and being transparent.
Commissioner Anthony Driver, Jr. re-introduces himself as a life-long South Sider and is looking forward to continue his work from the past 22 months. Mentions that the work he does is out of necessity.
Next on the agenda is the Vote for nomination of officers. Commissioner Driver is nominated to be President of CCPSA, he accepts. Vote is cast; Driver is elected as President of CCPSA.
Commissioner Remel Terry is nominated to serve as Vice President of the CCPSA. Vote is cast and Commissioner Terry is elected as Vice President of the CCPSA.
7:30 Next on the agenda is a vote to authorize a series of closed meetings. Vote is held, all Commissioners accept the use of closed meetings.
Next up is the drawing and announcement of Commissioner terms. Driver states that is Commissioner's term will last 2 or 4 years. With a random drawing of numbers 1 through 6; #'s 1,2,3 will have 2 yr terms while #'s 4,5,6 will have 4 yr terms
Next meeting is announced to be July 25 at Malcom X College. Commissioner Driver thanks community members and the first permanent meeting for the CCPSA is adjourned at 7:42 pm on June 27.
