About me
Khalil Dennis (They/She) is a Transfemme Jamaican-American artist, poet, journalist, and organizer currently residing in Chicago, IL. Beyond receiving their Bachelors in Saxophone Performance from the University of Kentucky, Khalil has cultivated a multidisciplinary career in Graphic Art inspired by their love of manga, animation, and horror.
Khalil is a alumni of City Bureau's Winter 2024 Civic Reporting Fellowship where she covered Long Covid disability during the Presidential election cycle. She is currently working as a freelance journalist and documenter.
In addition to being a visual artist, Khalil is a poet whose recent work explores their first-gen upbringing and childhood amnesia, recontextualizing the truths found within mundanity as they salvage their experiences growing up in rural Georgia; they are particularly moved by stories of familial intimacy and survival, identity, and loss of identity.
Khalil can be found illustrating, watching video essays, or cooking delicious meals and coffee drinks for their community.
